EVA was founded in 1988 by Bob Batson after converting his first Electric Vehicle, a VW Beetle. Bob knew from that Electric Vehicle experience and an analysis of world oil supplies that the "Future is Electric".
EVA studied the advantages of different types of vehicles (cars, sports cars, trucks, vans, SUVs) and identified that light-weight trucks had very specific electric vehicle advantages (e.g. payload capacity, weight distribution, safety, etc.). See the technical paper "Selecting a Vehicle for Conversion". In 1989 EVA converted a 1987 Dodge Ram 50 - that electric truck is still in operation in 2003 after a number of EV owners. Then EVA converted a number of S-10s, including three for the United States Air Force (USAF). Other Electric Vehicle companies followed the EVA lead into light-weight electric trucks including GM and Ford.
EVA became an authorized distributor for Advanced DC Motors and Curtis Instruments - leaders in components for Electric Vehicles. EVA is also a supplier for ALLTrax (controllers), Quick Charge Battery chargers, Electric Conversions (Elcon DC-DC Converters, fuel gauges, PFC chargers), RTC Machine (adaptor plates and couplings) Westach instruments, Zivan components and others. Our purpose is to be one stop shopping for our customers.
EVA has also established a network of EV Conversion Shops to provide training and conversions for individuals and businesses. Although each shop is an independent company, EVA encourages those shops to provide the same customer service as EVA. Components can be ordered through these local shops as well through EVA directly.
After 20 years in business, EVA has grown to meet the needs of many industrial customers (fork lift, airport tug) looking for systems for Electric Vehicles and EV parts for unique applications as well as the individual building a Electric Vehicles (electric car, electric truck, electric boat, electric snowmobile, electric jet ski).
